Adobe has some HTML5 design and animation tools

Friday, April 30th, 2010

This is a nice video where they use Flash to animate very simply on the time-line and export into Dreamweaver.
Then using Drewmweaver’s HTML5 canvas export to view the animation in a browser and running HTML5.

I was wondering if Adobe would be creating an HTML5 authoring tool, with a time-line to create animations for even simple digital flash-like banner ads — it looks like it’s rudimentary right now, but inclusive in CS5 and Dreamweaver.

Steve Jobs talks Flash Design

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

New letter by Mr. Steve jobs as he speaks about flash as a platform being closed and proprietary — he speaks openly about everything flash-negative. I for one am not a fan of this — he did leave out everything flash-positive and all the things flash as a design and animation tool /creative interactive designer’s tool it really is and all the things flash can do outside of Apple’s bubble. But have a read for yourselves and make up your own mind, the letter’s link is below:

Google Places

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

The Google Local Business Center is now called Google Places. This is the business listings pages found in Google’s local searches. We’ve heard a lot about local search, recognizing that 1 out of 5 searches are local search. A huge number of people narrow down their searches by the area in which they live. So for instance if I was to search for an amazing website design firm, I might use a city like this: website design New york City. This would narrow my results and bring some results from Google Places. The results also contain relevant information about a business from various places on the web, such as reviews and images, as well as other info and links the business attaches to their listing.

Some new features are:

1. Service areas – Businesses who travel can show the geographic areas that they cover. Those without a storefront can make their address private.

2. Advertising with Tags – Cost 25 dollars a month. Businesses can now use tgs to highlight their listings on Google.com and Google Maps. These are yellow markers that let you promote important aspects of your business. This doesn’t affect the rank of search results, but they give customers more information and may prove beneficial.

3. Business photo shoots – Businesses (in certain cities) can request a free photo shoot from Google to have the interior of their business photographed and added to their Place Page.

4. Customized QR Codes – Customized QR codes will take customers to your place page, and can be used on business cards and other marketing materials. Customers can scan them with their smart-phones and get location.

5. More Favorite Places – 50,000 more businesses in the U.S.
